The City of Davenport and partner Waste Commission of Scott County is hosting an Open House at the Davenport Compost Facility to celebrate the facility’s 26 years in operation and its contribution to regional waste reduction and environmental impact.

The facility marked the first-of-its-kind in the State of Iowa when opening on May 1, 1995. Today,  the Davenport Compost Facility continues to apply pioneering techniques and innovation. Keeping over 140,000 CY of yard waste and wastewater biosolids out of the landfill each year by recycling them to produce high-quality, 100% natural, and nutrient-rich compost, mulch, and other soil and lawn products.

During the Open House, take a self-guided tour of our compost operation, check out our products, talk to ISU Extension Office Master Gardeners about how to improve your garden or lawn with compost and other garden tips.

The history behind the facility will be featured, and the Waste Commission of Scott County staff will also be on hand to discuss other waste alternatives.

The tour is free, and attendees will receive a free pair of garden gloves while supplies last.

When: Saturday, October 2, 2021 | 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Where: 2707 Railroad St, Davenport, IA 52802
