Duck Creek Streambank Stabilization at Eastern Ave

04/04/22
Streambank stabilization on Duck Creek near the Eastern Ave Disc Golf Course adjacent to the Duck Creek Recreational Path is substantially complete. Tree planting and sign installation remain to be completed this spring. Visitors may note that a stockpile of soil remains on site. This material will be moved as staff scheduling allows. Watch for news this fall as a secondary project begins in the area. The complimentary project will reconstruct an adjacent grass swale.

In coordination with Davenport Parks and Recreation, Public Works is making streambank improvements along Duck Creek near the Eastern Ave Disc Golf Course adjacent to the Duck Creek Recreational Path.

The project will involve stabilizing eroding banks by grading the banks and adding toe rock. Activities will also include some tree removal, replanting of trees, and installation of a prairie.  As part of the project the City is adding some other exciting features, including installing a small boat access point (think not motorized, canoe, kayak) off of the parking lot, and installing lunkers in the stream to improve fish habitat.

Hole 11 will be temporarily removed while the work is performed.

Once complete, the project will:

  • Stabilize eroding streambanks
  • Help improve water quality through soil loss prevention
  • Improve fish habitat
  • Provide new recreational access to Duck Creek
  • Protect the disk golf course long term
  • Increase biodiversity
