The Davenport Public Works Department provides limited educational activities and classroom support, with a focus on water quality, stormwater and wastewater to protect our community’s natural resources and foster behavior change for the future of our community.
Current programming includes:
- Our annual Watershed Field Trip for all 6th Grade Davenport Community School District students.
- Our annual Community Showcase.
- Engineering Merit Badge Clinic (offered every other year), tentatively scheduled for February 2018.
- Forestry Merit Badge Clinic (offered every other year), scheduled for Saturday, April 14th, 2018.
- Soil and Water Conservation Merit Badge Clinic (offered every other year), tentatively scheduled for April 2019.
In addition to natural resource and public works education noted above, the department may provide other natural resource or mission aligned public works and public works career exploration related presentations, tours, and teacher professional development opportunities* as staffing levels are able to support.
To inquire about a presentation, tour or professional development opportunity, e-mail us. Topics may include stormwater, wastewater, engineering, traffic engineering, forestry operations, green infrastructure, sustainability, emergency response, floods, street and sewer maintenance, solid waste and recycling.
The community may also consider other resources:
- The Quad City Earth Coalition website, www.qcearth.org, provides links and information for many of our environmental education and stewardship partners. Refer to the Program area of the website for an inventory of educational resources and activities by topic.
- Our Community Tour Days.
We are unable to deliver school and after school programming at locations outside of the City of Davenport.
