Why Davenport?

The City of Davenport program supports K-12 students by committing an AmeriCorps member's time to foster civic engagement, mentorship, academic and social supports. Since 2011, our members have directly contributed over 150,000 hours of volunteer service to the Davenport community. This program aims to decrease the high school drop-out rate, saving Davenport taxpayers over $292,000 per potential drop-out.

Summer 2025 Program Year Recruitments

TERM OF SERVICE:  300 total hours running mid-May through early-August 2025

Common Chord creates musical experiences that help connect Quad Citizens with each other and build a stronger community where all can thrive. Through prioritizing highlighting local musicians, Common Chord builds an economy and culture that values local talent and creates more opportunities for musicians to build lasting careers.

Summer 2025 Position Overview
Community & Youth Arts Program Specialist - enhances Common Chord programming by supporting the InTune Mentor Program at multiple locations, contributing to community communications and design efforts, and representing Common Chord by engaging with partners, visitors, and supporting various community events.
(Term Dates: May 12, 2025 – August 2, 2025)

Davenport Parks and Recreation (DPR) offers a variety of recreation programs throughout the year, including seasonal events, activities, and classes for the entire family. There are several programs under DPR that are host sites for AmeriCorps members to serve at:

DPR Adaptive & Inclusive provides recreation opportunities for persons with special needs, including those with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities. These programs are offered in structured, success-oriented environments in areas of sports & fitness, arts, independent living skills, social activities, and special events.

Summer Camp Arts & Crafts Specialist - enhancing theme-related craft activities, developing camp resources with multiple crafts, creating attention grabbers and transition activities for camp downtime, and designing a "Learn to Draw" binder with instructional sheets for school-aged children. 
(Term Dates: May 27, 2025 – August 16, 2025)
 

Summer Camp Games Specialist - enhances camp games for large group activities, develops camp resources with multiple games for school-aged children, and creates new gross motor programs to promote physical fitness, all while ensuring activities align with predetermined themes.

DPR Community Events & Trails strives to provide programming that benefits the community with enriching experiences and events year-round.

Summer 2025 Position Overview
Community Events Program Specialist - attends City of Davenport community events for outreach and support, creating hands-on games and activities for various age groups, developing seasonal workbooks and activity one-sheets for different grade levels, and designing outreach materials and events for preteens and teens based on research and trends. 
(Term Dates: May 27, 2025 – August 16, 2025)

DPR Environmental Education provides environmentally friendly programming from toddlers to senior citizens to create environmental stewardship through active participation in a sustainable way through nature and garden experiences through Davenport parks and natural areas.

Summer 2025 Position Overview
Environmental Education Program Specialist - expands educational tour curriculum for various age groups, creates content focused on gardening and sustainability, and increases community engagement through outreach events, gardening activities, and promoting Davenport Parks and Recreation free community events.

DPR Davenport Junior Theatre (DJT) strives to build self-confidence and offer creative opportunities by producing accessible theatre for kids by kids. DJT offers dance classes, as well as theatre camps, classes, and workshops year-round, and produces three mainstage productions during the school year.

Summer Camp Specialist - interacts with youth at weekly camps to build professional skills, supports camp activities, enriches camp offering by creating dynamic activities, team-building exercises, and theatre games for school-aged children.

DPR Youth Sports provides quality recreational sports programming that is open to all boys and girls, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, in the Quad Cities.

Summer 2025 Position Overview
Davenport Quad Cities Corporate Games Events Coordinator  - increases participation through recruitment and event support, develops youth sports programs for summer based on research and proposals, and promotes community engagement via event outreach and program implementation.

Putnam Museum and Science Center offers unique, immersive, hands-on learning experiences with the goal of educating people of all ages in lasting ways.

Summer 2025 Position Overview
Putnam Museum and Science Center Summer Camp Specialist - enhances Putnam Museum and Science Center programming through activity facilitation, creates new and dynamic camp activities, and develops attention grabbers, downtime activities, and camp activities based on themes like science, STEM, and nature.

2025 Program Recruitment

TERM OF SERVICE:  May – August 2025

The City of Davenport AmeriCorps Program has a unique opportunity for local high school and early college-level students who are between the ages of 17 - 21. This program provides the benefits of being an AmeriCorps service member (i.e. earning educational awards to use for higher education, and being supplemented with a bi-weekly living stipend) all while helping the community with career exploration opportunities. Eight (8) students will be selected from the application pool to participate in this amazing service learning experience. The Davenport Youth Corps Program combines community service, job skills and leadership experience into a unique summer program that begins in mi-May and ends early-August.
