Better Roads Davenport

Change is happening. Bear with us!

Street and sewer improvements can lead to inevitable slowdowns and traffic reroutes. We ask that you keep your eye on the prize: a city with enhanced livability that can support existing business infrastructure as well as attract new companies. It’s a short-term hassle with long-term payoffs.

As always, safety is our number one priority. Staying calm and following construction zone signage will help us achieve that.

As we work to modernize the sewer and street infrastructure to support growth and a vibrant future for our community, remember: there are better roads ahead, Davenport!

Current Traffic Updates

This Just In

Watch for news on what to expect in the 2025 construction season next week.

  • The first in a series of $14.1 million road improvements for 3rd and 4th Streets begins Monday, March 31, starting with the resurfacing of W 3rd Street between Telegraph and Harrison.  Resurfacing will be performed in segments from west to east, starting with Telegraph to Howell. Travel will be reduced to one lane in the work zone. Once resurfacing is complete in the fall, conversion of 3rd St between Harrison and E River Dr from a one-way to a two-way will begin. Find more information on these projects at this link
  • Watch for information on the closure and detour of a portion of the Riverfront Walk and Riverfront Recreational Trail for construction of new amenities at Main St Landing next week.
  • Main St is closed between 12th and 13th Streets for private utility repairs.
  • Iowa American has various water main and hydrant work happening across the City, including work at 1st and Lincoln, 7th and Gaines, Frisco and Howell, and Fairmount and 43rd.

Park Access Impacted by Construction

  • 03.28.25 | Watch for information on the closure and detour of a portion of the Riverfront Walk and Riverfront Recreational Trail for construction of Main St Landing next week.

  • 03.17.25 | At this time, we cannot estimate when the riverfront bike path section will fully re-open due to railroad coordination. We will keep the community posted as more information becomes available. Current estimate is for a temporary rock path to be installed by early April. Installation of permanent paving and related work in the rail right-of-way is pending ongoing rail approval and permitting.

  • 12.20.24 | The Duck Creek Recreational Trail between Pine and Hickory Grove Rd has officially re-opened! Unfortunately, this also means next steps in the Duck Creek Interceptor project will close the section of trail between Hickory Grove Rd and Fairmount where deep (30 FT) sewer line work will begin on January 6. Enjoy the full trail while you can. We hear there will be a few 30+ days and potentially a handful of 40’s in the coming weeks. Keep your eye on the prize, once this section is complete this spring, no additional long-term trail closures are expected during the 2025 construction season and we will be over halfway through the installation of this significant sewer extension spanning over five miles.

  • 03.17.25 | Watch for updates this fall when the remaining phase of the Goose Creek Connector Trail and Veterans Memorial Parkway Connector Trail are complete.
