Updates to City's Flood Plan

Work on the City's flood plan and recovery continues as city staff puts the recommendations of the Mayor's Flood Task Force into motion.

City staff provided the Davenport City Council with background on a project to protect and preserve the Water Pollution Control Plant and related assets during times of flood yesterday afternoon at the City Council Management Update. The project was of highest priority for the Task Force, staff and joint use cities of Bettendorf, Riverdale and Panorama Park. The resolution to award a contract for the flood mitigation study is on the Committee of the Whole Agenda for discussion tonight, Wed, Nov 6th.

Additional steps being set into motion based on the recommendation of the Mayor's Flood Task Force include developing a request for proposals to study possible flood mitigation measures and the associated costs of keeping River Dr open during flood events.

In support of planning efforts and future decision making, City staff has also concurrently contracted the Corps of Engineers' Silver Jackets program to produce a floodplain challenges and opportunities model. The report will consider social and economic factors, as well as identify areas of opportunity for traditional and more innovative flood mitigation methods.

Many after-action activities have also been completed or are underway. Most visibly, work to remove the medians on River Dr between Perry and Iowa will begin on Wed Nov 13th.

The City continues to work through the FEMA public assistance process for reimbursement and recovery funding. Most affected municipal property and equipment have returned to normal; however, recovery work continues at hard-hit Credit Island and at Union Station.
