Flood Risk Education Series

As a city positioned along the banks of the Mississippi River and having over 100 miles of streambank, the possibility for flooding is a reality.  The good news is Davenport is resilient. Part of that readiness includes being knowledgeable about flood risk and ways to reduce risk.  To help property owners better understand their risk, we have designed a series of engaging virtual learning opportunities covering important flood risk information every property owner in the floodplain should know.

Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) are a great tool for property owner’s to visualize their flood risk. The City’s Floodplain Managers will introduce FIRM tools to attendees and demonstrate how to use the tool to better  understand flood hazard.  Staff will also discuss upcoming changes to the FIRM that will go into effect.

During this virtual session, property owners who received information on low entry point elevation data for their property will learn what the data means in terms of flood levels and the risk associated with the level. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions via chat and learn more about the City’s current Flood Study.

If you can only attend one session, this is the one to follow. A professional from the flood insurance industry will discuss why flood insurance is important, dispel myths about flood insurance and provide useful information on lowering risk and premiums. The insurance professional and City Floodplain Managers will also touch on the City’s role in lowering flood insurance costs, as well as resources and services available to help property owners reduce their risk.
