After surveying data and damage, the National Weather Service determined that an EF-1 Tornado ran through portions of Davenport on Monday, July 15.
Public Works, Fire, Development & Neighborhood Services, and MidAmerican Energy continued to support recovery and restoration throughout Tuesday and will continue recovery efforts well into the week. With power restored to nearly all Davenport properties and hazardous electrical lines removed, the task of removing many trees and large limbs from roadways will be more efficient as we head into the week. Crews expect to have all tree debris removed from the roadway by Friday.
We remind folks to inspect their trees for “hangers” (hanging limbs) and leaning. Hangers can fall at any time, causing injury or damage. If the tree is leaning, it may have sustained root damage. If you have a hanger over a sidewalk or roadway, please call Public Works at 563.326.7923 or report it at www.davenportiowa.com/pwrs. For private trees, consider contracting a certified arborist to inspect your trees. Find details on selecting a contractor at this link.
Residents disposing of spoiled food following this week’s storm may have to empty spoiled contents of a refrigerator. If you had spoiled food resulting from power loss, please call Public Works at 563.326.7923 to make arrangements. You will need to empty the contents of the refrigerator into garbage bag(s) and place in your cart. The crew will schedule to stop by to empty the contents of the cart off-schedule as staff is available.

Be alert when traveling today - remember to treat intersections with dark signals as a four-way stop. Don’t drive around barricades. There are still trees and power lines down.
Several homes remain without power and there are a few trees that remain in roadways. Public Works and MidAmerican Energy crews are continuing to work on clearing roadways and restore power.
Many community members recovering from the event likely have questions about solid waste collection, tree debris, and property damage. Find resources in the tabs below.
